THIS AIN'T YOUR DADDY'S BOWLING ALLEY...
Certain words come to mind when you mention the words `bowling alley'. Funny looking shoes, greasy burgers, lots of noise, old men in retro shirts with names like Butch and Striker embroidered over the pocket, a bar that seats 10 uncomfortably serving warm draft beer and peanuts, pinball machines and foosball tables. Well, if you don't know by now, The Bowling Alley at Palmer Lake ain't your daddy's bowling alley. Sure there are funky shoes, and you can get a great greasy burger (if you want it that way), Butch and Striker have been replaced by Rog and Dan the Man, the bar is a sports bar and grill seating 100 comfortably, with live music, a dance floor, karaoke, free poker and tons more. Most importantly it is a community gathering place that offers the opportunity to socialize, have fun, get a little exercise (on the lanes OR the dance floor) and share great times.
Entering into the 6th year of operation, the owners and staff of The Bowling Alley @ Palmer Lake have very quietly come to the assistance of the Tri-Lakes family in times of need, whether it be financial or just a place to come together and comfort each other. The mold was broken just a bit, well the quiet part anyway, on Saturday July 23rd. No it wasn't a mysterious cloudless thunderstorm roaring in from out of nowhere. It was the 2nd Annual Bowling Alley Charity Poker Run.
Over 55 bikes took to the road to raise money for our local firefighters. Not only did the temperature soar that day, hovering around 100, so did the level of anticipation of all involved knowing what a great day it would be. Breakfast, a mountain ride, barbecued ribs with all the fixins', tons of door prizes, cold beverages, and live music. Meeting new people, greeting old friends, comparing bikes and vest patches, all for a great cause. When the final numbers came in, this event raised in excess of $2800.00 for this worthwhile cause.
You have heard it all before, but it certainly cannot be said enough. Nothing like this happens overnight. The Bowling Alley Staff along with members of the local fire departments worked extremely hard in preparing. None of this could have happened without the sponsorships and donations of our local business community to whom we are very appreciative. It was without a doubt a huge success and a tradition that will be continued. Planning has already begun for the 3rd Annual Bowling Alley Charity Poker Run, with hopes to double the number of bikes, increase the number of vendors and provide an outside afternoon concert for all.
